Frieze 2025 – One of the Top Art Fairs in the World

Wallpaper calls Frieze a highlight of London’s cultural calendar. One of the most influential art fairs in the world, it attracts art admirers and collectors from across the globe every October.

The Words on Beauty team reports from the Frieze VIP opening day in London.

Two huge tents in Regent’s Park, Central London, become a real magnet for art lovers for a few days each autumn – that’s when Frieze lands in the city. You can see people all over London carrying Frieze newspapers (they’re huge and always stylish). Various cultural institutions organise collaborations timed to coincide with Frieze – that’s how important it is for the social calendar. For example, Prada recently hosted a pop-up edition of its art club, Prada Mode.

The collectors’ preview usually takes place on the eve of the public opening, first for VIPs and then for general visitors. Many artworks are sold during this period.

This year, many artworks at Frieze were made from textiles – one of the biggest current trends. Paintings on fabric and intricate weaving techniques were a delight to admire. These works reflect a growing desire for a homely, comforting aesthetic in uncertain times. They feel authentic in a domestic space, which may explain why nearly every second gallery featured at least one textile-based piece. That’s Frieze London – always in tune with the art of the moment.

Frieze Masters, meanwhile, showcases heavyweights – major names from the past, displaying works of museum quality. For some of these pieces, it may be the only time they’re ever seen in public before being sold into private collections.

Frieze is also a hub for networking and people-watching. You’ll spot collectors, gallery owners, art critics, and professionals from the art world – along with enthusiasts who simply love art. Guests often include figures from the creative industries, finance, and even celebrities.

It’s a highly recommended event if you’d like to familiarise yourself with the art world and see some of the most talked-about artworks of the moment. The first couple of days are by invitation only, however, it’s possible to buy tickets for the final days of the fair.
