Domaine Evremond – a new sparkling wine terroir in Kent

It’s a sunny Sunday morning in Chilham, Kent, and we are arriving at one of the most exciting new vineyards in the UK – Domaine Evremond. The landscape is stunning, and the vines are lit by the sun on all the hills surrounding the main winery building. It fits perfectly into the local landscape.

There is a lovely terrace overlooking the vineyards, situated on a hill, where we are waiting for our tasting. We are trying a Classic Cuvée, which is crisp and refreshing. That’s exactly what’s needed on a hot June afternoon. The taste encapsulates the terroir beautifully.

The Classic Cuvée is made from two vintages and has balanced minerality that perfectly embodies the oceanic influence of the terroir. The chalky soils of Kent seem ideal for producing a new generation of sparkling wines.

The domaine covers 125 hectares, planted with the classic grape varieties: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier. It’s a great place to spend the day, or just stop for a glass of sparkling wine on your way to discover the sights of Kent.

It’s important to note that this project is a collaboration between Champagne Taittinger and Hatch Mansfield, who have worked together for over 25 years, establishing Taittinger as a leading champagne in the UK. The project started in 2015, and the winery opened its doors to visitors in 2025.

There is definitely a growing trend for English wine, especially English sparkling wine. The south of England is becoming a powerful winemaking region, as the climate suits the grapes, and some amazing cuvées can be produced here.
